The gaming industry’s heavy-hitters Sony and Microsoft are facing off in 2021.
Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X were released at the same time in late 2020, with both console platforms selling out in a number of days around the world.
Gaming has gained a shot in the arm because most people are now working from home and under various levels of lockdown. Game developers have responded to the times with incredible works of art to entertain us all.
The age-old question remains: which is the best gaming console for 2021? In searching for that answer, reading reviews and reports on the various gaming consoles by people who have actually bought and played with each will you have a better idea on which console would suit your needs and gaming style. You might have come across ShopTo reviews when you were reading reviews about electronic shops.
From hand-held consoles, PC gaming rigs, and PS5 and Xbox Series X, you’re spoilt for choice right now:
- Xbox Series X
- PS4 Pro
- Xbox One X
- Xbox One S
- Nintendo Switch
- Nintendo Switch Lite
Some games are exclusive to each platform, so if your favourite game is strictly available on a specific console platform, you will either need to remain with that platform or learn a new game. The biggest debates concentrate around PlayStation and Xbox console platforms.
Both offer incredible game titles, hugely impressive graphics and immersive game-play. Xbox’s most played games of 2020 were Fortnite; Call of Duty: Modern Warfare; Grand Theft Auto V; Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege; NBA 2K21, Minecraft; Forza Horizon 4; Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War; and, ARK.
The most played PS5 games for 2020 were: Call of Duty Modern Warfare; Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout; Fortnite; Ghost of Tsushima; Grand Theft Auto V; Apex Legends; Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege; Cyberpunk 2077; and Assassin’s Creed Valhala.
By looking at the different games and the types of games, it is difficult to choose between the two platforms: gamers played the same sort of games across their different console platforms.
It would be difficult to choose which is best without taking a deeper dive. The Xbox Series X renders the most graphically beautiful games, but the PS5 offers the greatest number of exclusive games. Each offers fantastic online support and online game stores, but it is Sony’s PS Store that edges out the Microsoft equivalent. For ease of use, both consoles offer newbies and experienced players a simple navigational interface, and their controllers are similarly designed. When it comes to the finer details, the PS5 offers much the same performance in terms of games but it is the more affordable price and larger selection of games that sways many towards the PS5 over the Xbox Series X. As in the world of games, this could very well change: with the release of newer games, that will drive more sales of a platform than its performance alone.
